Water Baptism
At Citygate Church we believe that every born-again believe needs to be water baptised. Although baptism doesn't secure our eternal destiny (eg. the thief on the cross, Luke 23:40-43), it certainly was the New Testament norm for new believers. In the early church, when you professed Christ very soon afterwards you got baptised in water. So water baptism is not an optional extra. Take the following verses, for example: Acts 2:41 "Those who accepted his message were baptised." Acts 18:8 "Many of the Corinthians who heard him believed and were baptised."
Being baptised with water is a demonstration of our obedience to the Lord Jesus Christ. It is a practical demonstration of a spiritual reality that has already taken place.
What happens?
Baptisms at Citygate Church take place on a Sunday evening. We have a baptistry filled with warm water at the stage end of the main hall and there is opportunity to share your testimony of how you became a Christian. If you would like to be baptised, please complete the application form and we'll provide someone to assist you in preparation for this important step.
